Sickness & Illness Policy
In line with DVSA guidance, all learners must be fit to drive and able to control a vehicle safely at all times.
Normal cancellation terms apply in all circumstances, including illness. Lessons cancelled without the required notice will be charged in accordance with the standard cancellation policy.
If a learner advises the instructor that they are unwell, the instructor may decide that the learner is not fit to drive and may refuse or terminate the lesson.
Once a learner has declared themselves unwell, the instructor’s decision regarding fitness to drive is final, even if the learner later states they feel able to continue or proceed with the lesson.
This includes situations where a learner changes their decision after becoming aware that the lesson will be chargeable.
Any lesson refused or ended under this policy will remain chargeable if it falls outside the required cancellation notice period.
The instructor has a duty of care under DVSA standards and road traffic law and will not conduct a lesson if they believe the learner’s health may:
Affect their ability to drive safely, or
Place the instructor or other road users at risk, or
Place the instructor or fellow learners at risk of illness
This policy is designed to ensure compliance with DVSA standards, maintain road safety, provide consistency for all learners and provide a safe environment for both instructors and learners.
